Participants Sought for Study of OCD in Children and Adolescents
Researchers at the University of Alabama Psychology Department are conducting a study of repetitive behaviors in children and adolescents with obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). The study is being conducted as the dissertation project of Michelle DeRamus as part of Dr. Laura Klinger’s ongoing research with children and adolescents. The researchers are interested in families with children between the ages of 7 and 17 years of age.
The study will examine repetitive behaviors, social interactions, and fears or worries in children with OCD and will provide valuable information for future research and clinical interventions with families of children with OCD. For example, the results from this project may be applied to developing individual and group interventions for children and adolescents with OCD.
Participants’ children will not be contacted by the researchers. A parent will provide all information for this study. Participation involves completing a 45-minute telephone interview and then filling out a survey regarding the child’s behavior, which will take approximately 45 minutes to complete. Parents may choose to complete an Internet-based version of the survey or a paper-and-pencil version of the survey. If a parent chooses to complete the Internet-based version, he or she will receive an ID number and password for the survey. Those choosing to complete the paper-and-pencil version will receive by mail a packet containing the survey materials. Once participants have completed the survey, they will receive a $5 gift certificate to a major bookstore in their area to thank them for their time.
Individuals interested in participating in this study should contact Michelle DeRamus, a graduate student supervised by Dr. Laura Klinger, at 205-348-9312 or by email at for more information.
Those would prefer to have the researchers call and tell them more about this study, and those who are not interested at this time but may wish to be contacted in the future about other studies, are asked to send their preference along with their name, day and evening phone numbers, and email address to the researchers at the following address:
