Heat waves can impact mental health

An Australian study which investigated 13 years of data from Adelaide, a city of 1.16 million, found that heat waves exacerbate symptoms of dementia, depression and anxiety, and are associated with a 64 percent increase in admissions to psychiatric hospitals.

Infants, the elderly, and individuals with mental health disorders are most prone to heat stroke. Individuals taking antipsychotic and anti-anxiety medications are at the greatest risk.
