Posted on Thursday, December 04, 2008

Question: My OCD symptoms appeared in year 1986. My birth date is 1971. I started taking medicine in 2002 (Flovokin). I started doing Baba Ramdev’s Pranayam. Though I am feeling somehow good, I am thinking I have not been helped completely. Please suggest help to me.

Answer: Medication and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) are the two proven forms of treatment for OCD.  CBT typically involves Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP).  ERP therapy consists of gradually confronting the things that you fear while preventing any compulsive rituals.  If you suffer from OCD, it’s important to consider all avenues of effective treatment.  If you haven’t given ERP a try, it may be worth pursuing to see if it helps you manage your symptoms more effectively.
