Dietary Suggestions for Children
Posted on Monday, January 12, 2009Question: Are there any dietary suggestions for children with OCD?
Oregon
Answer: Regarding dietary suggestions for children and the treatment of OCD, there has not been any research to prove that any particular foods assist in the treatment of OCD. Let’s not forget, however, that food is the fuel that we put into our bodies that help our cells to work together and subsequently helps your body work more effectively and efficiently. Therefore, it makes sense to fuel our children’s bodies with healthy rather than junk food, but diet alone is not recommended in any way as a treatment for OCD. Eating a well rounded diet of fruits, vegetables, dairy, grain and protein and getting regular exercise are good additions to the treatment regimen suggested by professionals. The treatment of choice for OCD is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy with or without medication.
