My grandson is 3 1/2 and needs help
Posted on Monday, May 18, 2009Question: My grandson is 3 1/2. When I put him in the car from daycare (this is the only time he does this), he has to do what he calls “his business”, which is to touch every light and the holds behind the car seats before he can sit in his seat. When he goes in the bathroom, he has to first always turn the light on, then flush the toilet and then turn the light off. If he does not get to do this in that order, he becomes very upset. At times when he seems upset, his arms go in all directions.

OCD and the Preschool Child
Posted on Tuesday, March 17, 2009Question: I am a teacher of preschoolers with disabilities. Many of our children are autistic and seem to be very OCD-like. Things must be done in order or they are brought to meltdown very quickly. We accommodate when we can but sometimes we simply cannot. I would love to read anything on the subject of OCD and the preschool child, especially developmentally appropriate practices. Thanks so much!!

My Two-Year-Old May Have OCD
Posted on Wednesday, September 17, 2008Question: I have OCD as well as other mental health challenges. My daughter is at a high risk to struggle with OCD as well. She is only 2 and exhibits some OCD-like behaviors. I need simple techniques that are preventative in nature. I don’t know if she has OCD but it makes sense to do what I can now, should she develop it, to reduce the degree to which the disorder would interfere with her development. Are there resources for this issue?

Can A Preschool Child Have OCD?
Posted on Monday, September 15, 2008Question: I am a teacher of preschool children with disabilities. We seem to be observing some behaviors that could be indicative of OCD. I have been unable to locate any information with regard to this age group (3-5years). My gut is telling me NOT to force these issues and I would like info to share with other teachers with regard to approaches and techniques. Such challenging behaviors and no guidance seems to result in more harm than good. I am looking forward to your reply.
